Karol Wojtyla was a poet, dramatist, actor, priest, archbishop, cardinal, philosopher, and University professor. In 1978 he was elected Pope John Paul II - the first non-Italian pope in 500 years and the first ever Polish pope. John Paul II died in 2005. He spoke eight languages fluently including Italian, English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin, but his last words said were in Polish; “Pozwól mi pójść do domu Ojca” which translates into English as, "Let me go to the house of the Father.”
